    New appointments in Avon Squash

The Avon Squash Committee continues to grow, and we're pleased to announce four new appointments that will help us to develop the game in the region. John Welton has been appoined as County Junior Coach, Will Duffett joins as Schools Liaison Officer, while we also welcome Wendy Harrison to the Committee as Ladies League Secretary and Ladies Development Advocate.  Finally, Steve Williams joins us on Committee as Head of Marketing.

     John Welton   William Duffett

John Welton (Lansdown) - County Junior Coach

William Duffett (Bradley Stoke) - Schools Liaison

Wendy Harrison (Lansdown) - Ladies Secretary and Ladies Development

Steve Williams (Workout) - Head of Marketing

An experienced coach and accomplished player, John is a familiar face in the local squash scene, and we know he'll bring both energy and expertise to his new role. “I'm hugely excited to take on the role of Avon Junior head coach and will relish the opportunity to work with a very talented group of young players within the county,” commented Welton.

As Schools Liaison Officer, Will aims to encourage PE departments to get pupils playing squash, which is not always the case at the moment. "Trying to get schools on board to promote the game of squash is going to be challenging. There is talent out there and trying to tap into that would be good for Avon and for the future of squash generally,” he said.

Wendy is committed to promoting squash and attracting more people to play, which will stimulate more interest and investment. “I am looking forward to working with everyone in my new role within the squash community, including Girls Can and clubs around the county. I am open to new ideas and suggestions on how we can promote ladies squash and squash 57 effectively,” she said.

“First up, I'll be networking and sharing ideas with focus groups to look at how we implement new activities, and market the sport and its benefits more effectively. I'll be working closely with volunteers to build awareness and encourage more women to get involved in squash.”

Wendy will have strong support from Stephen Williams, who joins the committee asHead of Marketing. As Managing Director of the Perfect Storm Marketing Agency in Bristol, Stephen boasts a wealth of experience in the field, and is keen to bring it to bear on the cause of promoting squash and bringing more people to the game. “I am passionate about squash and am very excited about joining the team, who are all committed to building up squash in the region,” he commented.

Amongst this raft of appointments, we've sadly lost the stalwart figure of Mark Regan, who has decided to leave his post as Head of Publicity. Mark has made an enormous contribution to Avon Squash over the years, playing in the league, organising tournaments and festivals, and of course helping to keep several club bars in business.

"During my time as Chairman, Mark has been a great support in my attempt to modernise both the Committee and how the County works.  I would like to thank him for his service over the past 10 years."

Mark leaves big boots to fill, but it's also a great opportunity for the right person to come in and help develop Squash in the county at a very exciting time, with junior numbers growing and a thriving club scene. We would welcome applications for the following positions, which are currently vacant:

    Events coordinator

    Head of coaching

    Head of publicity

    Racketball lead

    Sponsorship coordinator
