    Bristol PSL Update

    Hello Everyone,

As the new season approaches, you may or may not be aware that Bristol will not have a team in the PSL.

There have been numerous changes to the rules for this season, the main one affecting us was the reduction of teams to 5 per division. The main idea behind this being that with a reduced amount of teams, there are a reduced number of fixtures, thereby allowing the teams to invest more money into a stronger team, also due to the fact the fewer fixtures can be better planned alongside the PSA calendar.

Due to these new rules, each team had to "apply" via a tender which was essentially a financial forecast for the season, among a few other things. Earlier this month it was confirmed that Bristol was one of three teams who weren't selected to be in this season's league. The predominant reason to my understanding being that our budget was much smaller than the other teams.

Obviously this is bitterly disappointing and a great shame considering Bristol's involvement in the league for so many years and the wealth of professional players we have willing to play for the team.

However, I feel there's no reason we can't use this in a positive way, and one of the ideas was to hold an exhibition evening later this year at Workout Harbourside to unveil the new courts. There's a vast amount of professional players in Bristol, and either due to rules or finances we are unable to showcase all the players that are here in the PSL. So to be able to do this in our own event strikes me as a brilliant opportunity for players, sponsors and spectators.

In the meantime we will also be doing our very best to ensure that we are selected for the PSL in the 2020/2021 season.

If you have any thoughts on what you would like to see us create this year then please let us know, and if you are interested / know of anyone who would be interested in ensuring that Bristol return to the PSL, please get in touch.

    With gratitude,
