The Butcombe Race of Champions @ Chew Valley Squash Club - results

Chew Valley Squash Club’s first ever Open Tournament was won by Steve Wakefield from Chippenham Squash Club.

For what the Club believed was the first time in their history CVSC held an open tournament recently.

The first of the tournaments, Series 1, ran from 7th to 9th September 2017 and was held at the Chew Valley Leisure Centre.

There were entrants from across the South West and spectators were treated to a feast of squash. The knock-out rounds started on the Thursday night continued into the Friday with the semis and the final being played on the Saturday.

The standard of the squash was superb at all levels and culminated in an awesome battle of youth versus experience in the Grand Final. In the end, experience won the day with Steve Wakefield taking the title 3-0 against CVSC’s own Joey Williams

The plate competition, for first round losers, was won by Chew Valley’s Dan Spinney, also 3-0 in the final against Gareth Thomas.

New Chairman, Brian Pate said “It was great to see so many quality players entering our first ever tournament. Bodes well for the future. Thanks go out to all who entered, the organisers and the sponsors Butcombe Brewing Co, Elite Mobility and The Pelly, Chew Magna. Roll on the next tournament”

There’s more in the pipeline too. Not content with this being their first ever tournament, CVSC are going in at the deep-end and holding a linked series of tournaments across the 2017/18 squash season culminating in the Series Finale next year. The next round, Series 2 is planned for December so look out for the dates.
