    George Morgan announcement

Message from Bradley Stoke Squash Club

Something devastating happened on Wednesday 9th March during our match versus Vivo 6. Our number one squash player, George Morgan was enjoying his match, playing extremely well and was one nil up. He was doing what he loved to do since the age of 9; when suddenly he collapsed on court. The emergency services were called immediately and arrived shortly afterwards.

We regret to inform you that he later passed away in hospital despite best efforts from the medical team. Everyone at the club are distraught about what has happened and our thoughts are with his girlfriend and family, who have lost their 21 year old son and brother, who had his whole life ahead of him.

George played the game with a smile on his face and with a great attitude on and off the court. He had a calmness when playing and seemed to have so much time between shots. He had unerring accuracy, particularly on the backhand side and his guile and disguise at the front court, left many floundering to retrieve the ball. George brought a lot to the Bradley Stoke club, and I know that many of our own games have benefitted from being able to watch George play each week.

George reached his highest squash level on this fated day of 2,147. His short-term goal was to reach 2,000. You did it George.  Rest in Peace George, you will be greatly missed.

The funeral date is 11 April at his old school, Ratcliffe College near Loughborough. More details including timings to follow should anyone wish to attend.
