Update on ES membership for league players

    Update....

Having worked through a few clubs' memberships with ES it's clear that there's not a whole lot of flexibilty in the process so rather than epecting everyone who plays 3 or more times in a league to have a valid ES number, we're going to relax that to:

For every player who plays three or more times in a league, there must be at least one player with a valid ES membership number in the same team - up to a maximum of 5 players per team.

That way it's more about numbers than specific players but we do want players to be registered in their own names if at all possible. We're just avoiding the need to be calling ES every time a new player shows up.

You may have noticed that the team view now shows this check although it's not connected to the penalities yet. Be grateful I've been too busy! I'm getting there though so please make a point of registering your players and entering their ES numbers on to the system asap.

    Cheers,

      Richard.

Just a quick update on where we are with all this.

The intent is that everyone who plays league should be a member of England Squash, preferably via their club. This process requires:

    • Telling ES how many courts and players you have (as a club)
    • Getting an invoice from them
    • Paying it
    • Entering the players into the ES website and getting membership numbers
    • Getting those membership numbers verified

and then entering the membership numbers into the badsquash website so they can be checked by the system. Anyone playing more than three times or more in a league will need to have a membership number or their results won't count.

That's where we're trying to get to.

It turns out that the ES membership secretary, Steve Jones, is very busy and it's taking a while to get through this process for all of our clubs but it should be possible to get as far as getting player membership numbers and entering them in to the badsquash system. It may not be possible to get them verified for now.

So, we'll be checking for valid numbers but not that they are verified. That should be achievable.

We're into our second week of league matches this week and I'll begin adding code to the website to at least show who's been playing for your team, how many times they've played and whether they've got a valid membership number or not. That will be viewable on the team details page. No penalties for now - just showing you your ES membership status as viewed by the system.

More to follow when there's something to see!

    Cheers,

       Richard.
