Try the Android app this week!

Update - from the testing so far the general feeling is that it sort of works if you give it all the information it needs:

    • All 5 players for both teams
    • A score for all 5 strings

This is tricky for summer league when you only need 4 strings so I've added some dummy players at the bottom of each club player list to use. You'll also need to give them a score but this is all ignored when the match results are uploaded.

I've also enabled the system upload for all matches which can be done once all the scores are in - just press 'confirm' when it appears.

Note - captains need to be logged in to be able to select team players

Feedback still welcome. Please allow for the painful re-selecting the season/league/division/my club etc. and the occaisional forgetting of the team selection. Do use the 'save' and 'refresh' to keep the data updated back on the main server.

Note - you won't see anything on the main website until the result is 'confirmed'. Everything else is held in a 'staging area' which you can't see!

    Thanks!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have a version that sort of works so it's worth making available to try beyond my own phone.

You can download it from Google Play for free and it's simply called 'badsquash'. It's got a nice little squash court logo. It's Android only I'm afraid.

It's aimed at making the captain's role paperless, plus a few other things besides but for now I'll focus on the captains and markers.

You should be able to log into it using your badsquash log-in, find your upcoming fixture and use it to select your team. For now you'll have a fabricate a 5th player as this was developed with 5 player teams in mind. Just add someone who isn't playing. Don't worry, that person won't count as played and won't get you a penalty!

If you do this while connected to the internet you should be able to send your team selection to the badsquash server 'staging area' which will come in handy when marking later.

In theory, if both captains have done this, both teams will show up on both captains phones at something like 7pm on the night of the match. I've no idea if that works but it should be fun!

You should be able to select one of the strings and use the app on anyone's phone to mark the match, again sending the results to a 'staging area' if you have a connection. You should be able to view anyone's match that is in the staging area live as it's being updated. All good fun for the home supporters if it works.

At the end of the overall match, the captain should be able to pull in all the string results from the staging area and send them off to the main DB to post as a match result. I've disabled that bit from the server to protect the DB for now but I can make that available match by match if you want to give it a try - just let me know.

You should also be able to mark a match even if you're not logged in so if you're playing or marking tonight, get yourself apped up and let's see how it goes.

I did try it last week and it sort of worked. I didn't kill my phone either so that was a good sign!

Please let me know if you try it out and how it goes.

    Cheers,

      Richard.
