Mixed league fixtures frozen - one more update

    Bath Uni home date changes

I've just found out that Bath Uni can't play home on a Wednesday so, sorry, I've had to change all their home fixtures (that are on a Weds) to a Tuesday. Their Thursday home fixtures remain unchanged.

This applies to all Bath Uni teams.

    Cheers,

      Richard.

The dust hasn't settled completely but I'm going to go ahead and freeze the fixtures for the Mixed Spring league now. The odd fixture might have to change but that will be managed with those affected directly and those teams know who they are. The vast majority are good to go.

Many thanks to those teams who needed to be flexible. We really are in a difficult position w.r.t. courts these days.

    And good luck to everyone!

    Cheers,

      Richard.

I've had a couple of requests that I couldn't fullfill (sorry about that) but nothing critical so I'll leave it until end of Monday for any final concerns to surface at which point I'll freeze the fixtures.

If I remember right, this was the trigger for 2-3 last minute urgent requests last half which required another run through but I hope that doesn't happen this time! We need to get our courts booked...

    Cheers,

      Richard

After a little much appreciated flexibility from a couple of teams and a second pass I think I've been able to generate a set of fixtures that fit without the need for a match on the 7th. Phew...

Please take another look - they will have changed significantly - and let me know if you have any critical issues with them as they are now. I'd rather not need to change them again!

    Cheers,

      Richard.

    Previous update

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been extremely difficult to generate the 340 fixtures needed for the Spring league. We have more teams, fewer clubs and clubs sharing courts which amounts to not enough courts for the fixtures we need. The university teams also have a shortened term with exams at the start and Easter at the end and they have BUCS fixtures which we have to work around. We also have to work around the ladies fixtures. There just aren't enough courts to go around these days.

In a nutshell, it doesn't all fit. I've had to bring the uni teams a little early and run a little late and one match will have to be played on the 7th January - Thornbury D v Vivo Sports 5.

For those clubs that have enough courts I have been able to do things like avoid half term if asked but, on the whole, it's all a bit of a squeeze.

Within the divisions I've been able to arrange things a bit:

    • The uni teams have been kept apart - it's hard enough to generate fixtures when there's only one uni team per division
    • I've kept teams from the same club apart
    • I've kept 'southern' and 'central' teams together and the same for 'northern' and 'central'. I've managed to avoid 'northern' and 'southern' teams being in the same division.

Please take a look and let me know if there are any problems. I've not been able to maintain the nice 'play everyone and then play them again in the same order' order due to the significant rearranging that had to go on to fit it all in. That's unfortunate but can't be helped.

    Cheers,

      Richard.

Here's a quick update on how the Mixed Autumn league finished and how things look for the Mixed Spring league.

    Premier A

    • BLTSC Tigers Winter A come out top with a clear lead over rivals Vivo Sports 1 which appears to be the new name for Welsh Back. Well done Tigers A.
    • Lansdown A and David Lloyd Turds go down to Premier B

    Premier B

    • Thornbury A are the winners of the divison and go up to Premier A along with Lansdown B.
    • So interestingly Lansdown A and B swap places but since they'll have to stick to team order... there's no effective change. Is that fair....? Perhaps we need to revisit the team order...
    • BAWA A and Vivo Sports 2 go down to Premier C

    Premier C

    • University of Bristol Mavericks and BLTSC Tigers B are the joint winners of the division though the uni team quality for the play-offs at the end of the season because they had a higher number of wins.
    • Westbury David Lloyd B and Thornbury B go down to Division 1

    Division 1A

    • David Lloyd D (what happened to A and B?) win the division and go up to Premier C
    • Only one team from each division 1 can go up to the dizzy heights of the premier divisions...
    • Chew Valley A and BAWA B go down to Division 2

    Division 1B

    • Lansdown C win the division and go up to Premier C
    • University of Bristol 3 and Westbury David Lloyd C go down to Division 2

    Division 2A

    • Redwood Phoenix A win the division and go up to Division 1
    • Lansdown D go down to Division 3

    Division 2B

    • Bath University 2 win the division and go up to Division 1
    • Redwood Phoenix B go down to Division 3

    Division 2C

    • David Lloyd E win the division and go up to Division 1
    • Weston B also go up to Division 1 as the highest scoring of the 2nd spot Division 2 teams
    • Thornbury D go down to Division 3
    • BLTSC Tigers D also go down to Division 3 as the lowest scoring of the 5th spot Division 2 teams

    Division 3A

    • Burnham-on-Seam win the division and go up to Division 2 along with BLTSC Lions E
    • Keynsham A and Bradley Stoke B go down to Division 4

    Division 3B

    • Hutton Moor A win the division and go up to Division 2 along with Gordano B
    • Westbury David Lloyd D and Kingsdown B go down to Division 4

    Division 4A

    • Kingswood A win the division and go up to Division 3 along with Coslton

    Division 4B

    • Bath Uni 4 win the division and go up to Division 3 along with Keynsham B
    • Weston C will also go up to Division 3 to make  a 6. See details below.

We also have some new teams coming in:

    • Vivo Sports 5 -> Division 3
    • Weston D -> Division 4
    • David Lloyd E -> Division 4 (can we re-name the teams starting at A?)
    • University of Bristol 5 -> Division 4

With these new teams coming in it gives us a chance to return the Division 3s to 6 teams each so Weston C will move up and we'll still have 5 teams in each Division 4.

I'll work on the fixtures based on all the responses I received (which were many and varied) and should have that ready soon after Christmas.

We'll start on the 14th Jan (allowing for those teams who can't do that) and stretch out until the week before Easter. I'll do my best to avoid half term for those teams who expressed a strong need to do so but no guarantees on that one I'm afraid.

Any questions please shout. (to [email protected] - don't reply to badsquash as it will bounce).

And finally... a special mention for both Colston and Weston B who both managed to field a team with 3 family members playing on the same night - the Tanners and the Lanes respectively! I have a feeling both families could muster 4 at once... a challenge for the Spring league!

    Cheers,

      Richard
