Bad Doubles Tournament 6/7/8th October - Report and Results

Over 70 people entered the third Bristol and District Open Doubles Tournament held at and sponsored by David Lloyd this weekend.

The strongest entry by far saw some super games played over the weekend in a great spirit and no doubt there are a few sore limbs today as several players found themselves in the later stages of 2 events.

    Results: -

Ladies Winners - Alison Strobridge(David Lloyd) and Sahar Rahim (Bristol Uni )  beat both Lorena and Sarah and Alice and Claire in Box A to take the title. Box B was won by Rebecca Brailey and Caroline Moore, a late entry into the box and deserving winners remaining undefeated in their two games against Charmyn and Clare and Helen and Chris.

Mixed Winners - Alison Strobridge made hers a double partnered by Darren Venn (Next Gen) in a close final with a win over Sarah and Alan - 15-13 in the fifth.

Mixed Plate winners were Matt Clarke and Alice Bishop beating Chris and Charmyn Hall

Mens Winners - Mark Taylor (Redland) and Mike Martin (Redland) beat ex-Bristol Uni pairing of Darren Venn and Alex Coldicot in a very entertaining final.

Mens Plate winners - Redwood duo James Pigrem and Ross Morrell narrowly beat the Osborne brothers - Steve and Chris in another 5 setter final

Best co-ordinated team clothing award has to go to Clare and James Evans who had matching attire in all of their games.

Worst decision must go to the let played at match ball in one of the mens matches which was dubious to say the least and led to the match going on for at least another hour badly throwing out our time schedules!!!

Sincere thanks to all those competitors who took part and helped make this the most succesful doubles tournament so far. Be sure to keep the weekend, or perhaps the one before free next year -a clash with Chris Osbornes wedding wwould leave us at least 3 pairs down so will have to be avoided. We will advise you as soon as possible.
