    From England Squash.

    ES logo

    Dear County Associations and Clubs,

As you will be aware from recent media reports, there have been a number of allegations of historical sexual abuse in sport. England Squash is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and positive environment for all young people involved in squash as well as coaches and volunteers. We have worked closely with the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) and the NSPCC for the last 15 years to develop robust policies and procedures to protect children. We have achieved the NSPCC and CPSU's National Advanced Standards accreditation for safeguarding and protecting children in sport.

By way of updating you we would like to highlight the following points:

    • England Squash has safeguarding policies and procedures and uses all reasonable endeavours to ensure we fulfil our safeguarding responsibilities. All documentation is available on our website: https://www.englandsquash.com/about-us/governance/safe-squash.
    • England Squash work in partnership with the Child Protection in Sport Unit and other agencies to investigate and manage any concerns regarding young people in our sport. All concerns are managed through a Case Management Panel which includes an independent advisor.
    • England Squash has recently appointed an external safeguarding expert, who will review our current process, practices and procedures to ensure they are robust and enable young people to be safe when they take part in squash.
    • Every affiliated squash club and county association is expected to sign up to the England Squash Safeguarding and Protecting Young People policy.
    • England Squash ensures everyone undertaking a coaching qualification completes an England Squash Enhanced DBS check and attends appropriate safeguarding training as a pre-requisite to certification. All coaches are expected to update these requirements on a three-yearly basis.
    • England Squash is currently conducting an audit of County and Club Welfare Officers with a view to increasing support, training and communication.
    • England Squash will work with county associations to look into historic cases or concerns in squash and identify if reinvestigation is required.
    • England Squash will produce resources to help increase safeguarding awareness.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding safeguarding issues within squash, please contact Gayle Pink. Email: [email protected] or telephone 07855 482529.

If you are worried or have an immediate or historic concern about a child’s safety then please call the NSPCC Helpline number – 0800 800 5000.

    Kind regards
